Scripture:

Acts 15:28 NKJ For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burdens than these necessary things.

Observation:

This is an interesting phrase especially in the context of a very important setting.

A council had formed at Jerusalem to determine the fate of the Gentile church. Can Gentiles actually come to the Lord and what do we require of them?

After deliberation and testimony the council determined that it seemed good to them and to the Holy Spirit. No vision or anything earth shattering, no rolling of dice or drawing straws. No endless committee meetings. It just seemed good.

The Holy Spirit who was a revered and respected part of the early church was bearing witness, gently leading the early church with a monumental decision.

Application:

Because spiritual things do not fade out or change we can look to the Holy Spirit to witness to us on matters large and small.

He witnesses to us that we are saved. He guides us into all truth and shows us things to come. He whispers, not shouts, to our hearts and we can say the same thing about decisions we are making it seems good to us and to the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for the ministry of the Holy Spirit today. Thank You that He has not faded off the scene or is a silent observer in the lives of Your children.

Thank You for leading and guiding us by the witness of Your Spirit. And we too can have decisions seem good to the Holy Spirit and to us. Teach us to look to Him and follow His lead.
